Apply to be a Board or Committee member with Sombrilla

We are currently accepting applications for board members and for people to join one or more of our committees. Please contact us if you are interested in sitting on one of our committees.  

All Board & Committee members must be: 

• Committed to supporting Sombrilla and its mission to support partners in Latin America to empower them to assert their democratic, economic, cultural and social rights; 
• Be a current member or a willingness to obtain a membership for Sombrilla; and
• Be able to commit up to 10 hours per month to participate in meeting and assist with projects and events.

The volunteer Board of Directors consists of 8 to 12 members. A variety of backgrounds, skill sets and perspectives are valued. The term of office is 1 year. Board meetings are held monthly (excluding July and August), usually the evening of every first Tuesday. Board members also participate in Board committees and are involved in fundraising and public engagement events. In response to COVID-19, all activities at this time are being conducted virtually.

Nominations by a Sombrilla member in good standing are also accepted from the floor at the Annual General Meeting. The nominee(s) from the floor may be asked to present their qualifications and commitment to Sombrilla’s mission and answer inquiries from the floor prior to a vote by members.
